Madison Heard, Executive Board member (IASC)
Junior Madison Heard is thrilled to be nominated to the Iowa Association of Student Council’s executive board. This is the first time in MCHS history two MCHS students have served on the board concurrently. Junior Sofia Ahari joined the board one year ago.
“It feels awesome,” said Heard. “I’m very excited to work as a member on the board and feel so lucky to have received this honor.”
To occupy the job as an IASC officer, Heard competed with other student senators across the state through an application process.
“I filled out an application process which consisted of an essay over why I wanted to be an officer and what my qualifications were,” said Heard. “In the end, I was picked with three other student senators from across the state of Iowa to be a state officer.”
The three-year position requires Heard to communicate with other IASC board members.
“I will attend meetings and conferences, plan the student senate state conference, create a state project, and be a student voice on the board,” said Heard.
As an executive board member, Heard says her mission is to serve Iowa’s schools, students, and student councils by providing leadership opportunities and resources.
MCHS Student Senate Advisor, Laura Grommesh, says she is exceptionally proud of our leaders for these awards, especially since they are completely student-driven.
Heard is also an Officer at Large in the MCHS Student Senate, attending monthly school board meetings and informing the community about what the Student Senate does.
“I love collaborating with others, planning and organizing events, and working to make our school a better place which is what Student Senate is all about,” said Heard. “I’m addition, Student Senate has really allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and push myself to be the best leader I can be.”
Heard says she loves working with people and has made so many wonderful friends since joining the student senate.
“They have had a very positive impact on my life,” said Heard. “I think it’s a very positive community within our school and I’m so grateful for all of their hard work.”
