A Mason City High School student has been chosen to be the first to work on a community-wide effort to help raise money for North Iowans in need. Addison Dannen, a junior at MCHs, is on the committee for the Christmas Cheer Fund, a non-profit organization raising money for people living in Cerro Gordo, Floyd, Franklin, Hancock, Mitchell, Winnebago, and Worth Counties.
“My role is to provide some insight into what the younger generation is thinking,” said Dannen, “What they want from the Christmas Cheer Fund, and what we can do to make it happen. “
Dannen, is an avid volleyball player. But it was during one of her Student Senate meetings that she was asked to apply for a student position on the Christmas Cheer Fund Committee. The goal for this non-profit organization is to raise 100,000 and so far they have raised $75,000.
Dannen says she is learning the importance of teamwork.
“I’ve gained a great appreciation for the dedication and coordination of our board members needed to ensure that everything goes smoothly,” said Dannen. “This experience definitely showed me the importance of teamwork to achieve our goals.”
So far the Cheer Fund has had 180 donors, which is a lot with this being the biggest holiday every year.
