History students hope to get the right grade with the right pair of shoes. On Thursday, October 3, Katie Trask’s 11th-grade U.S. History class had to take a quiz on the Civil War.
Trask wore shoes with the sixteenth president, Abraham Lincoln, who won the American Civil War, and Union General Ulysses S. Grant, who later became the eighteenth president.
“I wore the shoes that had presidents on them,” Mrs. Trask said. “I thought it would be fun to wear them on the day of our exam, I told the students I was sending them good vibes so they would do well on their exam. It would be fun and possibly lighten the atmosphere of a sometimes stressful exam day.”
Although she tried to lighten the mood some kids still thought it was tough.
Junior Marquez Holton said, “I think I did well but it was kinda hard, but I think her shoes were unique.”
Most students thought the quiz was difficult
“It was hard,” said Junior Addison Gardner, “but the shoes were ok and it goes with what we are learning, honestly.”
Gardner said the most intriguing part of the unit was when she learned about Lincoln’s assassination while watching a play at the theatre.
