Mason High School wrapped up its 2024 homecoming last week. After a week of dress-up days, hallway decorating, and daily homecoming trivia, students finally got to the day everyone was waiting for- Friday’s pep rally and coronation.
Seniors Janae Hansen and Javel Lee were crowned king and queen. Lee, who also plays defensive and running back for the varsity football team, said becoming king felt pretty good.
“I was so surprised to hear my name called!” said Lee. “In my mind, we all had an equal chance. It shows that the Riverhawks community has my back. The best part of the whole thing, though, was for sure winning the football game. Can’t complain about two wins in one day.”
Hansen, who is a cross-country runner, said she was shocked.
“Becoming homecoming queen was fun,” said Hansen,” But the most fun part was becoming closer with the other members of the court and doing all of the homecoming week activities with them.”
The good vibes continued later that night as the Riverhawks trounced the Comets from Charles City 48-14. Sophomore quarterback, Jameer Falls, said it was nice to pull out a win after two back-to-back losses.“I felt really great,” Falls said. “I felt confident during the game.”
The Student Senate puts in a lot of hours, including some in the summer, to organize the week-long event.
