Last Friday, the Mason City Riverhawks came out ready to play against the Waterloo East Trojans at Riverhawk Stadium. It was their homecoming football game and one week after a shocking loss to the Waverly Shell Rock Go-Hawks.
The Riverhawks didn’t disappoint. Thomas Medlin had three solo tackles and an interception, earning him the turnover chain. Cameron Bjugan was a perfect 7-for-7 on field goal attempts. Drew Hobart had seven carries for 132 yards, three receptions for 44 yards and two touchdowns. The Riverhawks won 57-21
“I kept myself mentally stable by just trying to forget it and move on,” said Bjugan on the prior week’s loss to Waverly. “It was hard, but with the help of my coaches and teammates, I got through it. In practice, I would work on the parts that I needed to improve.”
“I just put that game behind me,” said Drew Hobart, “I reflected on it a little bit and realized that we can compete with the good teams in our district and use it for motivation for the rest of our games.”
The Riverhawks’ next game is tonight against the Decorah Vikings @ Decorah High School Football Stadium at 7:30PM. The Vikings are coming off back-to-back wins against Waterloo East Trojans (won 48-7) and Cedar Rapids Washington (won 53-21).
Let’s Go Riverhawks.
