About the Contributors
Stephanie Scholl, Adviser
Mrs. Scholl is a self-described news junkie. Since joining the Mason City Community Schools in 2014 as an English teacher, she’s been striving to bring Journalism back to the high school curriculum. Now, that time has come. As adviser of the new Riverhawk Press, her goal is to showcase to students the exciting opportunities and responsibilities that a career in journalism can offer.
Early in her professional career, Scholl worked as a reporter/anchor at KWWL-TV in Waterloo and WOI-TV in Des Moines covering local politics and news. This included the Floods of ‘93, the highly publicized case of Baby Jessica in Ann Arbor, Michigan, several Iowa Caucus campaigns including Bill Clinton (1992) and George W. Bush (2000). One of Scholl’s last stories was the local impact of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
After ten years of working in the field, Scholl moved to Mason City and eventually began a teaching career. She also teaches English 9 and Yearbook Class. She has four children and enjoys reading, sitting in the sun, and riding a bicycle.
Amelia Harp, Staff
Amelia has just started with the Riverhawk Press and is excited about what’s to come. She enjoys journalism and loves to write new stories. She enjoys singing, playing video games, and she loves watching YouTube. She also enjoys playing her trombone in the school’s concert band.
