The Riverhawk girls dominated Des Moines Hoover in a decisive 61-7 victory last night, bouncing back from a tough 80-39 loss to Gilbert last week. The team showcased strong defense and consistent scoring, setting the tone early and never looking back. This commanding win highlights the Riverhawks’ resilience as they continue their season.

Seniors Zaria Falls and Machaela Trask are leading the Riverhawks’ scoring efforts, averaging 16.0 and 14.0 points per game, respectively. Trask is shooting efficiently, with a 41.7% field goal percentage and an impressive 66.7% from three-point range. On the boards, juniors Gracyn Braun and Piper Johnson are key contributors, with Braun averaging 8.0 rebounds and Johnson adding 5.0. Braun also leads in assists with 4.0 per game.
The Riverhawk boys’ basketball team avenged last year’s 81-58 loss to Des Moines Hoover with a hard-fought 64-54 victory. Mason City established a strong lead early, though Hoover closed the gap to nearly tie the game by halftime. The Riverhawks made some key adjustments and stepped up their defense intensity at the start of the third quarter allowing the Riverhawks to surge ahead and gain a comfortable lead. This victory marks a significant turnaround from last season’s matchup.
