The Mason City Boys Varsity Basketball team is halfway through the season with a record of 4-7. Even though the Riverhawks have not played to the level the team was expecting, there is a lot of season to be played and a lot of opportunities to get ready for a playoff push. The team still hopes for a chance at the state championship.
“Even though the first half was a little slow, I expect us to keep getting better and more confident as a team,” said junior Jameer Falls. “We’ve learned a lot, and I think that experience is going to help us finish the season strong and make a good run.”
Not everything has been bad for the Riverhawks. They are the top 5 in steals in Class 4A with 10.5 steals per game.
The Riverhawks are starting a two-game home stretch this Friday against Ottumwa at 6:30 PM. Ottumwa’s record this season is 2-8 and coming off a recent loss to Oskaloosa, 69-45.
The Riverhawks will be without senior guard Drew Hobert due to injury. Lief Lundberg is able to play now and added to the varsity roster is Sophomore Nate Borchardt.
Mason City is hoping to get a big win in front of fans who will be in attendance. So be there, bring the energy, and help the Riverhawks get a much-needed win.
