Four State-Bound Riverhawk Wrestlers walked the halls for a sendoff before taking off on the road to Coralville’s Xtream Arena this week. The first wrestling match for the Riverhawks started on Thursday.
The four wrestlers advancing to state are Piper Phillips (100 pounds), Allie Robbins (105 pounds), Carleigh Arjes (130 pounds) and Trista Pike (155 pounds).
“I feel good about all four of the girls,” said Coach Jake Phillips, “They’re prepared, trained the right way. They showed it at regionals that they have the right mindset to attain their goals.”
This team has had to deal with some adversity. The Riverhawks dealt with an injury bug that caused a lot of the girls who could have made state to have to miss it. Phillips keeps a steady mindset towards those injuries.
“You’re in control of the things you can control, and you find answers to dealing with adversity.”
As a team, Phillips believes that the team did a good job handling the adversity and moving on to future goals.
Update: 11:05pm
Piper Phillips improved to 2-0 and will wrestle on Friday in the semifinals.
Ali Robbins finished 0-2 on the day, bringing her season to a close.
Carleigh Arjes finished 1-2 on the day and has completed her season.
