Opened in 2024, the MCHS food pantry serves high school and middle school students here at Mason City Schools. Ran by MCHS social worker Aimee Lenth, the food pantry is supported by the Food Bank of North Iowa and a variety of local partners.
When started in September 2024, the pantry served just five families, a number that exponentially expanded to 55 families across the middle and high school students.
“It is completely free, and it’s available to any student and their families, no matter what their financial situation is,” said Lenth. Students are able to order supplies for their family through a weekly Google Form and via the student portal.
In this podcast, Press staffer Hannah Kofoot joins Lenth for a behind-the-scenes peek at the inner workings of the food pantry.
